GERMANY – NDR Head of Entertainment, Thomas Schreiber gave an interview to fellow fansite regarding EBU’s decision to cancel the eligibility of the 2020 songs for Rotterdam’s 2021 edition.
“There is still no decision because I did not agree with the participating countries’ decision of the Reference Group to exclude songs from the ESC 2020 … First of all, it destroyed large investments in 41 countries, destroyed the hopes and dreams of many artists, and disappointed the Eurovision family. The Reference Group’s decision first took into account the economic interests of individual countries for 2021, but not the majority of the participating countries.”
Regarding Ben Dolic, NDR’s man has no answer yet as they will not decide about 2021 in the near future.
Thomas Schreiber also gave vague information regarding the 180 minutes of TV program replacement now needed. He couldn’t also be clear if there will be a pan-European (including Australia) prime time show to cover the loss of that airtime.
“There will be a program on May 16 from 8:15 p.m on Das Erste – hopefully, we will see very soon whether we will do 180 minutes for Germany or whether there will be a Europe-wide (and Australia-wide) program from 9 p.m.”
