UNITED KINGDOM – Six singers are left fighting for the crown on this year’s X Factor. This includes Anthony Russell, Scarlett Lee, Brendan Murray, Dalton Harris, Acacia & Aaliyah and Danny Tetley. And they will be coached by two members of a legendary Swedish pop group as they prepare for the semi finals on November 24 and 25.
ABBA songs will be the theme of this weekend’s show, following the global success of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
Some of their biggest hits include Waterloo, Dancing Queen, Super Trooper and the Winner Takes It All.
Members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus will also be making a special appearance, according to RadioTimes.
Benny will host a masterclass with the remaining singers to offer his expert advice after being in the industry for decades.
He said: “I am very happy to be hosting a masterclass and hear the last six contestants perform our songs.
“I am thrilled the X Factor is celebrating the Mamma Mia! film soundtracks.”
Meanwhile, Bjorn will be at the studio to watch the contestants perform some of ABBA’s top hits.
He is keen to see how the semi-finalists perform some of his bands most famous hits in their own unique way.
He said: “I am looking forward to being at the X Factor studio on Saturday night and see how the contestants put their own spin on our songs just as Cher, Meryl Streep, Lily James and the rest of the cast did in the movies.”
ABBA announced in April this year that they are also working on new music for the first time in 35 years.
A statement on the official ABBA Instagram account said: “We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio.
“So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”
All four members, including female singers Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, are expected to release two new songs at the start of 2019, including I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down.
