USA – Filming for the Netflix movie starring Will Ferrel has started and the first information is incoming. What is known is that Will Ferrel and Rachel McAdams will represent Iceland in the competition. Icelandic media today report that Birgitta Haukdal’s participation in Eurovision 2003 will be the inspiration for the film.
In the small Icelandic town of Hussavik, Birgitta’s birthplace, many of the new film’s shooting take place. It is essentially a fishing village of about 2,000 people, but quite picturesque, from where Eurovision and Birgitta began their adventure.
According to the Icelandic media, the film will tell the story of a young girl with great talent who had a dream of a small Icelandic fishing village able to find herself in front of millions of Eurovision Song Contest viewers. The story of Birgitta!
Filming will also take place at London’s Pinewood studio. Part of the filming was done in Tel Aviv as producers wanted to have in their film the authentic energy created in the arena during the competition. Indeed, the reactions of the audience were filmed after the participation of Iceland and Russia.
Except for Rachel McAdams, who will star in Birgitta, Will Ferrel will also star in the film, and his idea was to create this Eurovision film. The only Icelandic actor to be cast is Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, who by accident this year also gave the ratings to the Icelandic Jury.
As far as the fantastic Icelandic entry goes, this one seems to be signed by the man with the most composer record! Of course it’s Ralph Siegel. The German composer and producer who won Eurovision in 1982 for his country, but also composed all of Valentina Monetta’s contributions to San Marino.
But for the moment, let’s remember the really beautiful participation of Iceland in 2003, with which Birgitta from little Hussavik brought her country to eighth!
