THE NETHERLANDS – Ahoy Arena turns into a hospital. The first materials from the temporary care location in Rotterdam Ahoy will be delivered on Monday morning.
The halls are filled with different units, which are comparable to hospital rooms. “There will be four patients in each room, there will be a sanitary facility and we will make a doctor and nurses location. It will actually be a small hospital that we will put up here in a short time.”
The work in the first hall is in full swing on Monday morning. This should initially accommodate 88 beds. “We build it modular. We build four halls full and if necessary also the arena. We also set up a hall for people without a corona, so that we have separated it.”
These are people with and without corona who actually have to go to a hospital, but will soon be taken care of in Ahoy to leave the hospitals free for coronavirus patients. “We can also accommodate people who come out of the hospital, but still need help at home. We organize this because we see that it is necessary. This way we are fully prepared.”
According to Littooij, the construction of a care location in Ahoy is unique. “We are doing it in Rotterdam: we said yes to this plan on Friday, and today the first stuff will be driven in.”
According to the director, the work will be completed next week. “We expect that the first patients will be here from April 13,” he explains. “If there are people who offer help, sign up. We can use all hands right now.”
