UKRAINE – It may be 3 months since Alina Pash’s victory in Vidbir 2022, but the issue that arose due to the forgery of official government documents has not yet subsided. This issue led her to withdraw her candidacy from the competition and paved the way for the Kalush Orchestra. The rest is known to all of us.
She herself, in an interview with Timur Miroshnychenko, admitted that she travelled to the Crimea by bus for a personal matter. However, footage emerged of her participation in Iryna Bilyk’s choir at a wedding in Crimea in 2015. She admits she does not remember well, and that she may have flown to attend the event. In doing so, he declares that he “legitimized Russia’s invasion of Crimea.”
Half of the group travelled to the peninsula by bus from Ukraine and the other half by plane from Russia. In those days we had other concerts, flights and trips, so I do not remember how we got there. I do not have anything marked on my passport. Yes, it was a flight from Russia, because at the same time I posted a photo on my Facebook account where I complained about Aeroflot’s services. I did not know that this act was a violation of Ukrainian law, I did not know that in this way I accept the invasion of Crimea as legal.
The Ukrainian singer forged her documents so that it would not appear that she passed through Russia. It seems that with the help of Andrei Inozemtsev, these documents were created and delivered to the organizers of this year’s Vidbir. Wanting to convey the message of her song “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” to the Eurovision audience did not think that her career would be jeopardized through her actions.
“I apologize to the Ukrainians!”
The images that were released after the controversial concert, unfortunately, put the singer in an even worse situation. Her photo in Moscow’s Red Square and her ski uniform in the colours of the Russian flag is something that social media users have not forgiven. In fact, Alina Pash ‘performed with other Russian artists and participated in other concerts on Russian soil.
She says that the images are the result of a young man of her age, as she was not involved in politics at the time. Shw admits, however, that she made many mistakes, apologizing to the people of Ukraine.
I take responsibility that my actions made the conqueror enter our country… Those who criticize me will understand that people who admit their mistakes, must forgive or there must be understanding. I want to apologize, but I hope they understand that now we must be united against our enemy.
These words may put an end to the criticism surrounding the name of Alina Pash, who before Vidbir, was awarded as a rising artist at the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards.
