UKRAINE – Alina Pash won Ukraine’s national selection on Saturday with “Tini zabutykh predkiv / Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by being the jury’s favourite and ranking second with the televoters.
Alina Pash has stated on Instagram that she will not compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 and will not represent Ukraine in Turin.
The remark came after UA: PBC postponed Alina Pash’s participation in Eurovision due to an investigation into a 2015 trip she took to Crimea.
The documentation that Alina presented to authorities of how she entered the location was scrutinized, but the outcome of this probe has yet to be verified.
“I donโt want this virtual war and hate. The main war now is the foreign one which came to my country in 2014. I donโt want to be part of this dirty story anymore.
With a heavy heart, I withdraw my candidacy as a representative of Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest.
I want to thank everyone who supports me and helps me, who hears my song and important message, not gossip about me.
Thank you!
The story continues with you and it is up to us to decide what it will be.”
Suspilne, the CEO of Eurovision broadcaster Suspilne, said yesterday that “crooks” should not represent Ukraine and that he was awaiting formal confirmation from the border office on whether Alina entered Crimea unlawfully in 2015.
Alina addressed the continued suspicion that the travel papers she gave to the broadcaster were forgeries this morning.
She said that while she and her team awaited an official answer from the country’s border service on acquiring the paperwork, someone on her team decided to “assist” by discovering the information as quickly as possible and maybe generating a false document.
