MOLDOVA – Anna Odobescu represented Moldova in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest and was also chosen to participate in NETFLIX Eurovision movie among other top Eurostars.
We asked Anna to speak to us about her Eurovision experience and without hesitation she replied to our questions:
Speaking about the movie exprience, she said
It was an indescribable emotion when I received an offer to star in a film with Will Ferrell. Everything was handled with so much professionalism… There was a huge number of people who worked for this film. I truly felt I was in seventh heaven, when I personally met Will, Rachel and Dan. They are great actors and wonderful people. I admire them a lot.
About the filming process
The filming for Sing Along lasted 4 days at Knebworth House. I remember that we woke up very early to got to the set. Each of us, had their own camper, where we changed clothes, our own make-up artist who was making sure that our makeup and hair stayed intact, throughout the shooting day. Each scene was filmed with great care, several times. David Dobkin who is a wonderful and very friendly director, always suggested what he would like to see in the frame. It was very cold outside, the time that scene was filmed where we are all standing outside in a circle. I was wearing a very open suit and Will, who was very caring, felt really uncomfortable having a warm jacket on while I was dressed so lightly. When they stopped the shooting for a moment, they brought me a blanket to warm me up. We had so much fun and it felt so cool being around such brilliant people. The day ended very late but I was incredibly happy.
Did she expct the success of the movie’s common song?
Regarding the song, I was one hundred per cent certain that it would speak directly to people’s hearts. It truly is an amazing song that I also felt so close to me as a performer. It’s a major song, an everlasting ballad. Knowing that the Eurovision fan base and viewers who also love watching the show every year are very solid and devoted people, the film was bound to be “the talk of the town” and ultimately a hit on Netflix. I honestly feel so honored and blessed to be a part of it.
What were the reactions back home?
Everyone was pleasantly shocked and proud here in Moldova, when my participation in the film was announced. There were a lot of people and artists who congratulated me which made me very happy. Surely, there was a small number of colleagues who may have envied the fact I was the first Moldovan singer to be a part of a Netflix production, but I didn’t pay any attention to it… there was simply no time for that.
Will Anna return to Eurovision?
Eurovision 2019 was the most incredible and unforgettable music moment of my career, so far. Every single step we took together with all of my team, is still in my mind and my heart. It would be a challenge to return to the contest and dare to dream once again. I loved every part of it, despite the difficulties and hurdles, we were all so proud of what we achieved. I would definitely see myself representing my country once more in Eurovision.. Yes, I would love to try it again!
