ARMENIA – Singer, songwriter Athena Manoukian presented a new song entitled “Dolla”. The new single is available on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes and other social platforms since May 15. The Eurovision 2020 Armenian representative notes that this pop song has some African vibes.
“Dolla is a song about love. It is a very positive, fresh single that makes you dance. It touches upon the topic of how a woman can love a man who has no money, but he is a great person. And for that woman money has no importance. This is very important as what you need to love in a person, is the inside of him and not what he or she has’’,- Athena Manoukian says about her new song.
The music was composed by both Athena and DJ Paco. Athena Manoukian wrote the lyrics for this summer hit.
Athena, who is widely known in Europe, has participated in a number of international contests, she is also a songwriter and has composed a song even for the winner of Eurovision 2005, Helena Paparizou. In 2008 Athena Manoukian participated in the Greek national selection for the 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song “To Fili Tis Aphroditis”.
In 2011, Manoukian released her first single named “Party Like A Freak“, which became one of the biggest hit singles in Greece and has over a million views on YouTube. Following the success of “Party Like A Freak”, which was nominated twice for winning an award at the MAD Video Music Awards, in 2012 she released a follow-up single “I Surrender” which instantly became the summer hit of the year.
In 2017, Manoukian broke into the music industry as a songwriter and wrote the music and lyrics for “Palia Mou Agapi”, performed by Helena Paparizou, the winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2005.
The following year, 2018, she did a guest live show appearance for The X Factor in the United Kingdom and reached the front page of the newspaper The Sun and many more major newspapers and magazines, talking about the fierce stage presence. She amazed the judges Simon Cowell, Robbie Williams and Ayda Fields.
In 2020 she won the Armenian national selection “Depi Evratesil” and was supposed to participate in Eurovision Song Contest with “Chains On You’’ song written by Athena. Unfortunately, the contest was cancelled because of the coronavirus.
