BELARUS – BTRC was expelled from the EBU in June. The station would no longer be able to access various EBU services, including the Eurovision Junior and Song Contest.
According to a BTRC official, the broadcaster can only get back into the EBU after three years. This means that it cannot operate as a full member until 2024.
These services include the rights to broadcast EBU events, as well as the opportunity to participate in various other competitions and events.
To be allowed to compete in Eurovision 2019, a country must have a broadcaster with EBU membership, and Belarus has no member stations in the union.
This is the first time that a country has been unable to participate in Eurovision since it was established in 2003.
