First of all, congratulation on your selection, and thank you for giving this interview to Oikotimes. How were you informed RTBF had chosen you, and what was your reaction?
Hi oikotimes.com ! Thank you, you to give me your time ! So I knew the RTBF choice by phone ! They just called me an afternoon to ask me if I could be interest by this song contest and honestly, I didn’t give my decision the same day they called me. So I thought like I think one week and at the end of it I gave my response. It’s a great show with big opportunities.
Can you tell us a bit more about your background and your ambitions?
Well I’ve always been in love with the stage and the spotlights ! You know, I dance since I’m 9 years in an art school in Belgium but my heart dances since I’ve seen Michael Jackson for the first time on Ghost video at TV. Then I made The Voice where I was finalist and where, you know, I just learned so much ! This singing contest confirmed my way to see my future. I just wanna sing until I die all around the world ! It’s very ambitious to talk like that, but I think a nice international career is my main ambitious !
Do you know how your entry will be chosen? Do you have an idea of the kind of song you’d like to perform on the Eurovision stage? I just wanna sing something wich really matches with who I am and what I love. You know I really like Sia and Lorde ! So I’m looking for a song with massive beats and a very powerful chorus with true and touching lyrics.
A Belgian entry in French hasn’t been heard since Eurovision 2005. We all know languages is an issue in your country. Would you prefer singing in French or in English? Why? I prefer singing in English and I’m ready to work very hard on my accent and my pronunciation for that. First of all because I’ve always been in love with english, I don’t really know why, that language touches me personally. I represent the entire Belgium ! I’ve always wanted to exprime myself in English. I really like that language I really find it very beautiful!
What are your Belgian, Francophone and international music references?
I don’t have french music reference, because I don’t listen to french music. I’ve always listened to american or british pop songs but I’ve ever heard talking about french music legend like Edith Piaf for example. But about international music reference there’re a lot ! But I think that my two main references are Sia and Lorde, like I said sooner.
How well do you know the Eurovision Song Contest? Do you have songs that come to your mind?
I just know severals artists names who made the Eurovision in the past like Celine Dion or Abba.
What is, in your opinion, the best Belgian entry ever?
It’s a nice occasion to gather my countries. You know, French and Dutch together for one night !
Did you watch Eurovision 2014 in Copenhagen? What did you think of it?
I didn’t. Unfortunately I did The Voice last year, and the Eurovision was the same week that the Final… So I didn’t have time enough to prepare The voice final and watch The Eurovision 2014. But I know who won the contest last year ! And I think she has a nice voice and we dare the same label !
The 60th contest will take place in the Austrian capital city, Vienna. Do you know this city or this country?
I just know by my friends that’s a very beautiful city and of course I know Conchita ! But honestly I don’t know very well Austria but i’m sure there’s much to see and to learn ! I’ll know more at the end of my experience !
Do you have anything to add for oikotimes.com readers ?
I Hope see you again! maybe we will meet in Vienna ?
INFORMATION ABOUT LOÏC
Loïc Nottet is a young and complete artist who is already conscious of the universe he wishes to create. He participated in the total conception of this project. He composed the music, melody, collaborated the choreography, co-designed the look and visuals that will be used during the presentation in Vienna. At the age of 17, Loïc Nottet took part in the Blind Auditions singing the hit song Diamonds by Rihanna. His knockout performance and unique voice instantly won over the coaches and the audience alike. As a finalist in the third season of The Voice Belgique, the young Courcelles native signed a contract with Sony Music Entertainment. His father wanted him to become a football player, but he wanted to sing and dance. With a style that is instantly upbeat and sincere, Loïc became a darling of the public thanks to his charisma and all-round personality. Among the artists “worshipped” by Loïc, is Sia. This Australian singer is a source of inspiration for many artists. Several months ago, Loïc recorded a cover of her hit Chandelier; a cover that was discovered by Sia herself, who re-tweeted it accompanied by a personal compliment to her over 840,000 followers on Twitter. What a fantastic way to turn the spotlight on Belgium’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest!
