BULGARIA – Konstantin Kamenarov has been elected the new director-general of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) taking the office from his predecessor, Vyara Ankova. He won the vote of the Electronic Media Council (CEM) members on pledges to update BNT’s program repertoire and to work for the development of new current affairs and news programs which, as he says, are the media’s backbone.
During his inaugural speech he mentions budget cuts and we all remember that Bulgaria withdrew in 2014 and 2015 due to them. In any case BNT has managed to monitor the budget for Eurovision. After all in 2017 they mentioned themselves on Twitter that their Kostov venture cost 100,000 Euros including the EBU fee.
It was said by BNT (actually with great surprise they were not consolidated before) that after the election the new Director General they will decide not only for senior but also for Junior Eurovision, in both of which contests Bulgaria recently triumphs ranking well enough.
We still don’t know what MR Kamenarov will decide upon Eurovision Song Contest (although we somehow have the feeling that he will approve his country’s participation, although I don’t think they could manage to go to Tbilisi). We will definitely hear from Bulgaria very soon regarding the senior and Junior Eurovision Song Contest editions.
