SOFIA, BULGARIA – Speaking to ESCDaily.com, BNT’s Joana Levieva-Sawyer, Head of Delegation, revealed a kinda shocking information which we didn’t expect: Bulgaria is not in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest participating list of countries.
The news shocked us to be honest as we thought hosting Junior Eurovision this Saturday would boost BNT’s motivation to enter Stockholm’s Eurovision edition. But there is a problem inside BNT: money!
Joana Levieva-Sawyer said that the broadcaster wants very much to participate in the senior Eurovision Song Contest but unfortunately there is no funds available. If the broadcaster makes money out of hosting the Junior Eurovision 2015 then they would consider their thoughts. But another problem occurs: the deadline is over. Not that it matters as the EBU is always flexible to participation up to the day before the allocation draw for the semifinals.
EDITOR’S VIEW
No matter whether we like or not the songs Bulgaria sends to Eurovision Song Contest we need every single European country in the contest to share their music, passion and ideas. It’s all about sharing and unity, especially in these turmoil times.
