SAN MARINO – SMRTV’s Director-General, Carlo Romeo is a person who dares to speak his opinion and we love him for that (although most of his choices for Eurovision representation were totally wrong).
This time Mr Romeo expresses his disappointment regarding the organization of the 2020 Eurovision edition describing this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, on behalf of the Dutch angle, as unable to give a sense of unity, with poor management and as a result ultimately provokes nationalism.
A while ago, through the country’s public television, in a relevant press release, Carlo Romeo gave his message against the organizers of Eurovision 2020.
“A very, very bad page this year is the Dutch management of Eurovision 2020. Confusion, lack of coordination, leaks, incredible negotiations with hotels and so on. But above all, I see a European vision that is incapable of giving meaning to the word “we” despite a sum of many “are” during this emergency. We are risking, alternatively, many nationalisms. It is no coincidence that once the Eurovision 2020 program is completed, on Saturday afternoon, San Marino RTV will broadcast – across Europe via its satellite channel – the original and integral version of the historic speech of French President Francois Mitterrand to the European Parliament in January 1995.”
We remind you that although many times we (the fans in general) mocked San Marino and its choices, it was EBU who in several occasions ignored and snubbed the broadcaster and its members. It is no secret that in many press conferences, the spokespersons introduce the session with San Marino as the time when the whole state attends the area!
We agree with Mr Romeo but we also know that he is wasting his time!
