A few days ago, American TV channel CBS aired a special evening show dedicated to singer Whitney Houston who passed away on February 11, aged 48. Many artists including Usher, Jennifer Hudson, etc. gathered on stage to perform the late R’n’b diva’s hits during a very moving show entitled “We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston”.
Another well known great voice was part of the tribute show: Canadian superstar and winner of the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest Céline Dion. Currently busy with the release and the promotion of her latest album in France, Céline took the time to fly back to the USA and perform in memory of Whitney. Beautifully dressed, within a blue frame, Céline Dion appeared on stage and declared “We say that the things that inspire us stay with us the longest. But it seems like yesterday that I furst heard that remarkabla voice inside that beautiful young girl only 5 years older than me sing these words” before singing a few notes of “Saving all my love for you” a capella before a stunned audience.
Genuinely touched, Céline carried on saying “I cannot sing it like you Whitney but if I may in celebration of all you did for me … I’d like to sing one of my truly favourite Whitney songs, a song that says as much about you as it does about all of us” before embarking in a magical rendition of the 1986 classic “Greatest love of all” .
