SPAIN – Chanel stormed the stage in Turin and won Spain its highest contest placing since 1995. One of her partners looks back at the path it took to get there.
Chanel has taken some time off since Turin to prepare for her next step. She sang “SloMo” during the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival Queen pageant this week.
Kyle Hanagami, choreographer and creative director for “SloMo” in Benidorm and Eurovision, published a film on his YouTube account today that follows him, Chanel, composer Leroy Sanchez, and the rest of the creative team through the three months of preparation between Benidorm and Eurovision.
The 22-minute video shows dancing and vocal practises, including Chanel jogging in heels on a treadmill.
It also tracks the growing bond between Kyle, Leroy, and Chanel and features candid moments when the trio reflect on their accomplishments and anxieties, as well as the contrast between the online ugliness that followed “SloMo’s” victory at Benidorm and Chanel’s hero’s welcome upon returning to Spain from Turin.
Kyle Hanagami and Leroy Sanchez both started with YouTube. Kyle, from Los Angeles, has uploaded dancing videos for over a decade.
He’s worked with Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, and his routine to Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” has over 234 million views.
Leroy, a Spaniard resident in Los Angeles, began uploading covers on YouTube 15 years ago. (Watch it here.)
His “Hello” cover has over 55 million views. He’s published 3 EPs and co-wrote Spain’s Eurovision entry “Voy a quedarme.”
