THE NETHERLANDS – The news we all anticipated are in. EBU requested the City of Rotterdam to reaffirm their intention to host the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest edition and the city council today voted in favour of it.
Moments ago it was reported that the City of Rotterdam reaffirmed the hosting of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, a decision reached by an overwhelming majority of the voters. It is not sure how the 2021 edition though will be shaped as the council was forced to decide without knowing what will really be happening in a year.
The City of Rotterdam also agreed to the extra funding of the contest with 6,7 million Euros.
The council also urged for the organisers to support the idea of giving free tickets to the medical staff of the country.
Members of the council expressed worries that although they want to back up the hosting of Eurovision 2021 they cannot be sure how things will be in 2021 as the virus will not vanish next year.
Another member of the council said that although the 2021 edition will not be as huge as once was, the celebration of life should take place in Rotterdam next year.
In the meantime, all events are banned until September 1st.
