AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – After a 3-year break, Cornald Maas will be back as the Dutch commentator during Eurovision Song Contest 2014. He will replace Daniël Dekker who has done the job for 4 years.
Cornald was a commentator on many previous occasions since 2004. When TROS took over Eurovision in the Netherlands in 2008, he kept his position but was eventually replaced in 2011 since the broadcaster had not appreciated his negative comments about the 2010 Dutch entrant, Sienke. It seems that at the very moment when TROs is about to fuse with AVROS, they’ve changes their position and they are going back to fundamentals.
Maas is no stranger to team work as he has previously collaborated with Willem Van Beusekom (Istanbul’04 and Kiev’05), Paul De Leeuw (Athens’06 and Helsinki’07) and Daniël Dekker (Oslo’10). He was the sole commentator for TROS on only one occasion, Eurovision 2009 in Moscow.
Iin Copenhagen, Dutch viewers will hence appreciate a new duo as he will team up with Jan Smit who has been doing the job for 3 years now, and who was actually chosen to replace Cornald in 2011! How ironical!
On the other hand, Daniël Dekker will still be involved with Eurovision since he will host his Radio 2 programme “Gouden Uren” live from the Danish capital city from May 5th to May 9th.
