UPDATE: Croatian national broadcaster decided that the song is not subjected to any of the plagiarism accusations therefore is eligible to participate in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – Croatian broadcaster HRT will meet this morning to discuss alleged plagiarism claims concerning its 2016 Eurovision entry ‘Lighthouse”, sung by Nina Kraljić.
Pierre Bengtsson from the Swedish website “Pierre’s Schlager” recently suggested that parts of the Croatian entry are similar to Zara Larsson’s song “Uncover”.
The statement was picked up by Croatian media, with HRT calling for a meeting to discuss the claims.
Some experts say that the first three tunes in the chorus of “Uncover” are the same as the first three tunes in the second part of “Lighthouse”.
DID YOU KNOW?
Despite being in prime position with the bookmakers, Nina Kraljić has endured some criticism since her selection as Croatia’s Eurovision representative. Most recently, the Union of Croatian Composers have criticised the entry due to its lack of Croatian composers. Croatia will compete in the first half of the first semi final in Stockholm on May 10.
