CYPRUS – Speaking to ANT1 Cyprus Television, CyBC General Director Mr Michalis Maratheftis said that we should all remain realistic and calm. Answering the question whether Cyprus is ready to host Eurovision 2019, he said: “If it comes, we will welcome it”.
“The most important thing for Cyprus is that is in the international spotlight with press area journalists two exceed the number of 2,000. Extensive coverage for the nice representation of our country which honours us is why we participate in this contest, a contest aired in Europe, Asia and Australia. I think that these are benefits for having a good participation in Eurovision and we are happy for it”.
Mr Michalis Maratheftis has been working on the project since August 2nd and declared that predictions is not his favourite thing as they just monitoring them but they are aware that on Friday night the juries will cast half of the voting results. Above all he wants Cyprus to be proud of their representation.
Regarinf the song he praised Eleni Foureira as one of the most disciplined and courageous singers he met, Alex Papaconstantinou and his composing team, the Swedish choreographer, Sacha Jean-Baptiste.
He also believes that with Foureira been an approachable person makes the international press and the fans love her even more. He praises her smile, hard work and dedication. He ended up the interview saying that all Cypriots should send their positive energy.
On the mainland Greece things are not different. Media but also general sentiment is that on Saturday night Eleni Foureira will also represent Greece, since she is one of the most popular pop and fashion icons in the country the last ten year. Eleni, despite the bullying she received by (thankfully) few media about her descent is the Greek sweetheart and Greek Beyoncé at the same time.
That’s what also the international press report as well as mentioned in prestigious press like Independent UK, CNN International, New York Times and Euronews. It is widely believed that Cyprus should be ready to win on Saturday night.
In the meantime polls and beets predict Cyprus to win with improved odds and outright while Israel, although a hot favourite for months looses a lot of popularity with betting odds plundering it to 4th place for the trophy while Cyrus odds improve. Norway remains the big contestant for Eleni with Estonia and France inn the corner ready to get the trophy as well.
What a less for Greek national broadcaster, ERT who rejected Eleni Foureira already 4 times for Eurovision. This is why the phrase “everything happens for a reason” is so wise!
