DENMARK – Today Denmark’s 10 contestants for Melodi Grand Prix 2017 has been revealed by DR. Two former winners of The X Factor Denmark, last year’s runner-up and the “living doll” from The X Factor UK 2016 are among the finalists. One of them will represent Denmark in Kyiv in May.
Ida Una- One
Ida will open the show in Herning with a positive and uptempo song full of emotions, she says. She was discovered on Instagram on YouTube and was asked to perform a song in Melodi Grand Prix. Today she studies and she hopes to be a singer fulltime.
Thomas Ring – Vesterbro
Thomas won The X Factor Denmark in 2010 and has released two albums since; ‘Wrong Side of the Daylight’ in 2011 and ‘Sideways’ in 2013. His third album is set to be released in February 2017. Thomas Ring will sing the only Danish song in the competition this year.
Rikke Skytte – Color My World
Rikke is 18 years old and the youngest participant this year. Last year she released her first single ‘My Vibe’ on Spotify. She might look like a pretty girl but she calls herself a wild girl who dances on the tables and singing about the so-called “fuckboys”.
Anja – Where I Am
Last year’s runner-up of Melodi Grand Prix is back. Anja Nissen came in second after Lighthouse X in 2016 with the song ‘Never Alone’. Anja is Australian with Danish parents and she won The Voice Australia in 2014. The last year she has spend a lot of time in Denmark and now she is ready for a comeback in Melodi Grand Prix.
Calling Mercury – Big Little Lies
The duo consists of Jeppe Norup and Joel Peters. They are both 25 years old and they are the only group in the contest this year. They both studies in Copenhagen and were discovered on YouTube and Soundcloud and Melodi Grand Prix will be their second public performance together.
Anthony – Smoke In My Eyes
In 2014 Anthony won The X Factor Denmark together as a part of the duo Anthony Jasmin together with Jasmin Dahl. After their victory Anthony Jasmin released the singles ‘Do Ya’ and ‘Stick Together’ but later in 2014 they announced that they wanted to do separate things in music. Now Anthony hopes to represent Denmark in Kyiv.
René Machon – Warriors
In 2015 we saw René in Melodi Grand Prix with the song ‘Mi Amore’ he sang together with Tina. They came in 7th in the national final and this year René is back. He is a teacher and the lead singer of the band Cruise and he has released the album ’Puls’ in 2011.
Sada Video – Northern Lights
The living doll is here! Sada Video was known worldwide after her performance in The X Factor UK 2016 where she was eliminated at the Six Chair Challenge. She released the album ‘A Story With No End’ in 2014. The name Sada Vidoo comes from Arabic and means something with “Named Princess”. Despite her unusual name she is Danish and her “real name” is Nicole Stokholm.
Jeanette Bonde – Hurricane
Jeanette is known for singing in the gospel choirs ‘Copenhagen Gospel Quartet’ and ‘Gunnertoft Gospel Singers’. She has also been the backing singer for the Danish singer Stine Bramsen since 2015 and she has worked as a vocal coach for several years.
Johanna Beijbom – A.S.A.P.
Johanna is used to being on a Eurovision stage. Despite being Swedish she was the backing-singer for Denmark in 2015 when Anti Social Media sang “The Way You Are” in Vienna.
The songs will be released on February 20th and Melodi Grand Prix 2017 will be held in Boxen Arena in Herning on February 25th.
