DENMARK – Last year’s winners of the Danish national final, Ben & Tan, who due to the cancellation of Eurovision 2020 could not represent their country, released their song Iron Heart.
Iron Heart was nominated for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and Melodifestivalen this year, but public television did not select it to compete in this year’s selection.
DR’s spokesperson Gustav Lützhøft explained why Ben & Tan were not selected again for DMGP or even for Eurovision 2021, following the criticism received.
“Dansk Melodi Grand Prix must be a fair competition on equal terms between all participants, where the Danes are presented with new Danish music” and that their submission was “judged on an equal footing with the other songs in terms of musical qualities.”
Last year, Ben & Tan emerged as winners of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song “Yes”, collecting an impressive 61% in the Super Final of the national final, which was voted only by the public.
