On Saturday Switzerland will select its representative for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. We listened the 14 entries carefully and we decided to comment them. Here is the review of the songs:
“Catch me” by Ally – A livetly swing style song with a catchy tune. However, her chances might be hurt by the fact that she is performing first and the song is not that memorable. Ally shows her real vocal abilities in the last minute of the song.
“Bella Sera” by Chiara Dubey – This is in stark contrast to the previous song. An emotional Italian ballad with instrumentals and it is nicely sung. It is questionable whether it will strike a chord with the viewers, and again, the fact that Chiara is performing so early in the night might hurt her chances.
“J’avais randez-vous” by Carrousel – A very catchy French language tune sung by the duo. Although it is somewhat repetitive, that could be the key to its success. This is a “clap your hands and lets sing together” type of song.
“Do the monkey” by Anthony Bighead – This is a retro US style jive song. If it were to appear on the Eurovision stage it might be perceived as a joke entry. The tune is not overwhelmingly memorable.
“You and me” by Heilsarmee – A nice song with all of the six singers playing an instrument. It has elements of both pop and rock. Since it has a very good draw this could do very well.
“On my way” by Nill Klem – Another good tune by a solo male singer with the guitar being the predominant instrument heard. It is questionable whether people will remember it after all nine songs are played.
“The point of no return” by Melissa – A real Eurovision style dance song sung by a very attractive Melissa. With a strong stage performance this could do very well with the Swiss audience and ultimately on the Eurovision stage as well.
“Leve – toi” by Nicolas Fraissinet – After a barrage of English language songs it is nice to hear a different language. This is a good entry with a nice tune and the piano being the predominant instrument. The excellent draw could really help this song have a good result.
“Forever and a day” by Jesse Ritch – A good song with a simple tune. The second half of the song is better than the first as it more lively and memorable. Since it has a good draw it could do well.
