ISRAEL – KAN, Israel’s public broadcaster, announced the news on Twitter this morning. Israeli network KAN said today that if the strikes at the country’s Foreign Ministry continue, Israel would not participate in Eurovision 2022.
According to KAN, the Israeli security organisation Shin Bet does not have the competence to send an Israeli delegation to the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
As of now, Michael Ben David, who was scheduled to perform “I.M” for Israel, will not participate in this year’s competition in Turin. The EBU has not yet issued an official announcement about Israel’s participation.

“Due to the Foreign Ministry’s strike, the GSS cannot oversee the Israeli delegation to the Eurovision Song Contest, and as of now, the Israeli delegation will not participate in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin,” KAN stated.
As of now, due to the Ministry of Foreign affairs strike, that affects the security protocols, the Israeli delegation will not attend the Eurovision in Turin.

In compliance with Eurovision regulations and in light of the COVID-19 epidemic, all competing artists are expected to record a backup performance of their entry in the event that the artist(s) are unable to travel to the host country. Montaigne of Australia competed remotely using this way in 2021.
Michael Ben David, on the other hand, may be able to participate by utilising the live-on-tape backup recording of “I.M.” Michael’s live-on-tape was not mentioned by KAN as a possibility. However, in a response to a tweet, the broadcaster said that “all possibilities” are being explored.
EBU RESPONSE
According to the EBU statement, the EBU will do everything possible to ensure that Israel participates in the next Eurovision Song Contest, and we trust that KAN will be able to settle any difficulties concerning the security of the Israeli Delegation in Turin.
We are aware of the statement made by KAN this morning and are in dialogue with them about Israelโs continued participation in this yearโs event.
