ITALY – It doesn’t look promising what is happening in Italy regarding the Eurovision Song Contest and we all remember how chaotic and bad was the 1991 show in Rome.
The regional elections concluded (at least the first round) and now the new elected Mayors (since the old ones withdrawn from the race this time) must see the Eurovision project from scratch. After all, we were the first to report the information that has stopped all announcements so far. We remind you that the regional elections were suppose to take place last April but were moved to October due to the pandemic.
This means that RAI is awaiting them to take over and bid on their financial offer for the contest. Yes, it’s not anymore a matter of facilities, accommodation and technicalities but it’s about how much money each of the five finalist cities will give for the event.
It seems that we will have to wait until the end of the second round (18/10) and then probably more days until the official administration in each of the cities takes over. Until now we know that Torino has promised 7 million Euros invested in the contest while Bologna was bidding with 6 million Euros.
On the other hand, the Alessandro Cattelan nomination for the Eurovision 2022 host job is not entirely secured. Yes, RAI wants him but his two-episode show in Milan, DA GRANDE didn’t bring the TV ratings RAI wished.
It seems that a new name has emerged. A radio station revealed that singer MIKA is already chosen for the job without clarifying if he will be joining Alessandro or he will be the lead host of the event. It is also weird if this choice is confirmed because MIKA has declined Eurovision participation in Eurovision itself saying that the contest is literally trash.
Will RAI give to the European fandom a man with such an opinion about the event.
Meanwhile, EBU and RAI remain completely silent. It is understood that any statement would have political implications in the ongoing regional elections, but still, they could both give a new time frame for the announcement.
