ATHENS, GREECE – Most of us know Eleni Foureira from the Greek national selection of 2010 when she accompanied Manos Pyrovolakis in his bid to Oslo. Since then Eleni Foureira is one of the artists tipped every year to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest after her smashing appearances at MAD Video Music Awards and her hits released since then.
During an interview on People Greece Magazine she revealed a secret which was common for most of us: I have hidden the fact I was born in Albania. The birth place information was somehow a hot gossip in Greece for years since she mentioned in various interviews in the past that she descents from Mexico, in order to justify the surname “Foureira”.
ELENI FOUREIRA INTERVIEW
“They judge someone from his sexual or ethnic orientation and not from his work. I hided I was born in Albania because when I went to record labels, before I entered Mystique Group, they didn’t even wanna hear it. It was a taboo for them […] I didn’t understand back then when I was a little girl because I felt Greek. I don’t know another language, I was educated here. This is why I told myself, nothing will stop me from doing what I want and spread my message”
First of all congratulations to Eleni Foureira for finally coming out. It takes a lot of courage to convince the local show biz to accept such information in Greece and she had the guts to do so! None of us here at oikotimes, and I am sure among our visitors care where Eleni was born, but we somehow feel this “hidden” information might stopped her participation in Eurovision. We are all behind her whether she is Albanian or even Chinese. What matters is what we discovered onboard Louis Crystal last summer: that Eleni Foureira is a smiley and positive energy person! Go Eleni Go!
