PORTUGAL Elisa Silva and Vânia Fernandes recently shared the stage with the Madeira Classical Orchestra to celebrate ‘Madeira Day’. To mark the Day of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and Madeiran Communities, a date that celebrates the autonomy that Portugal granted to the Autonomous Region of Madeira in the Portuguese Constitution of 1976, RTP Madeira and RTP Internacional broadcast, on July 1st, a concert by the Orchestra Classic of Madeira.
Elisa Silva (2020) and Vânia Fernandes (2008) were two artists confirmed at the concert, interpreting the songs with which they won the Song Festival.
Elisa Silva was chosen by Marta Carvalho to sing “Fear of Feeling” at the Festival da Canção 2020. With the second place in the regional jury and in the televote, the singer won the competition, acquiring to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, an event that was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vânia Fernandes won the 2008 national festival with “Senhora do Mar“, a song by Carlos Coelho and Andrej Babic. In Belgrade, the singer won Portugal’s first qualification for the Grand Final, where she reached 13th place with 69 points, considered one of Portugal’s best ever results in the contest.
