MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – It was in 2008 when oikotimes.com was the first fan site introducing the celebrity reviews for the Eurovision Song Contest entries. This year we went Down Under inviting a Greek Australian celebrity to review the 2016 Eurovision Semi Finalists and Finalists. Our guest celebrity this year is Kyriakos Gold. The reviews will be published on April 29 (First Semi Final), April 30 (Second Semi Final), May 1 (Final).
Kyriakos was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1976 to Greek – Australian parents. He moved to Australia 1994 and has been working with local and international media ever since.
Kyriakos has worked with the major commercial Greek TV networks and was instrumental for their delivery in Australia.
He first joined the Australian Public Broadcaster SBS in 2002 and since then he has worked on SBS Radio, SBS News and SBS Online (including the “Eurovision”, “Sexuality” and “Greek” programs).
Kyriakos’ collaborates with JOY 949, Australia’s only LGBTI radio station to produce the “Europop” podcast and he is the executive producer of the “#greeklife” online platform.
He is a polymath. He has studied Music and Violin at the State Conservatorium of Northern Greece, International, Culture studies at the University of Adelaide (BIntSt) and Modern Greek at the University of Sydney. He completed his postgraduate studies at RMIT University in Law (Juris Doctor) – and Business Administration (MBA exec). He is an Australian lawyer, a NAATI accredited interpreter and has completed Journalism seminars at AFTRS.
He has been awarded the “Greek News Prize” from the University of Adelaide and the prestigious “Emily Mc Pherson Scholarship” at RMIT University. In 2013 Kyriakos was commended by the NSW Parliament for Outstanding Community Service in diversity, multiculturalism, youth and broadcasting.
