MALMÖ, SWEDEN – Regional news site 8till5.se reported today that Malmö withdrew its bid to host the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest giving as a reason the problem with the dates as everything is booked for them that period. There are many international events during April and May such matches, congresses, concerts, horse shows and the arena will not be available for full booking that period.
It is also widely spread that it wouldn’t feel nice for the rest of the country if this city takes over the contest that soon since they had their share in 2013 – just 2 years ago. SVT continues asking the bidding cities to provide their applications as the decision will be reached within July or early August.
To date we have Stockholm bidding with 3 venues, Friends Arena, the Tele 2 Arena and the Ericsson Globen Arena, Sandviken with the Göransson Arena, Goteborg with Scandinavium and Linköping with the SAAB Arena.
