EUROPE – After the blue full moon, the first day of August is a good reason to give you a summary of the latest Eurovision news, while most of you are on vacations. So keep yourselves updated with the latest from the wonderful world of the Eurovision Song Contest.
- CYBC vice-president Thanasis Tsokos proudly confirmed on newspaper Phileleftheros that the broadcaster is considering to repeat the national selection show for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The qualification of John Karayiannis in Vienna is the big argument towards the approval despite the winner of the talent show wasn’t the choice either of the jury not the public.
- Sanna Nielsen told to the press that she would love to host the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest edition if SVT asks her, Expressen reports. Her successful hosting job in Melodifestivalen 2015 and commentary in 2015 Eurovision in Vienna made her a favourite anyway. Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw remain public’s first choices for the hosting though.
- Will Aynur Aydin represent Turkey in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest? The rumour risen on the web as the Turkish-German artist seems to be a great asset in terms of voice, appearance and personality for the big comeback of the country in the contest. She has international achievements in her music career and she even got Loreen as backing vocalist in past album.

- Pop singer Páll Óskar (Iceland 1997) will be “sailing” a twelve meter long pink Viking ship at this year’s Pride parade. The idea he says is to bring attention and pay respect to all the queens who have been silenced throughout the centuries in Iceland, ever since settlement.
- Betty Missiego (Spain 1979) puts an end to her career. Let’s find more info about her: In 1969, she moved to Spain to pursue a singing career where she received Spanish citizenship in 1972. She currently holds dual citizenship in both Spain and Peru. In 1972, she represented Peru in the first Festival OTI de la Canción, held in the Auditorio del Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in Madrid (Spain) on November 25, with the song “Recuerdos de un adiós”. In 1979, she represented Spain in the 24th annual Eurovision competition held in Jerusalem (Israel) on March 31 with the song “Su canción”. Betty was accompanied by four children (Javier Glaria, Alexis Carmona, Beatriz Carmona, and Rosalía Rodríguez) who sang 157 las in the song, a Eurovision record. At the end of the song, the children unfurled small banners, with “thanks” inscribed on each in English, Spanish, Hebrew and French, respectively. Betty ended up in 2nd place with 116 points, behind Israel’s Gali Atari and Milk and Honey with the song “Hallelujah”. She also participated in the World Popular Festival in Tokyo and the Music Olympics in Paris. In 1980 she submitted another song, “Don José” to the Spanish selection committee for Eurovision but it did not make it to the finals in The Hague. Betty’s son Joaquín Missiego (known by his mononym “Missiego”), became a successful singer.
- Eurovision semi-finalist Molly Sterling plans to postpone her Leaving Cert to focus on her music career instead. The 17-year-old won’t be taking the exams next June. Instead, she is going to “ride the wave” of her recent success. However, Molly insists that taking a break from education for now does not mean that she is on holiday. “I’m not the kind of person that will just sit there and do nothing, I’ve got a real compulsive mind,” she said.
