Mayor of Kyiv Mr. Vitali Klitchsko held a meeting for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest preparations video of which became available as well. While the organising committee is ready welcome everyone on early May for the 62nd Eurovision edition the city is expecting delegations and fans / press / media representatives from at least 40 countries. Emphasis is given now to infrastructure so Kyiv could look attractive
Mr Klitchsko says: “We understand that a competition of this magnitude entails and requires a very responsible mission. This is the image of not only Kyiv but also of our country. The time we have left is not much, and there is much work to do. Therefore we can’t hesitate. According to preliminary estimates 20,000 visitors are expected to visit the Ukrainian capital during the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. Our task is to to prepare the infrastructure so that the city looks attractive. So when all the guests who will arrive in Kyiv for Eurovision will have a positive experience and emotion of our city. And I want to emphasize that safety is one of the key factors of preparation for the competition.”
The city will emphasise in the road repairs, revamp of the IEC surroundings and re-arrangement of the Nikolsko-Sloboda embankment. Mayor also asked the team to make the city attractive and safe for the visitors so everyone feel comfortable and welcomed, as Eurovision experience will be a key ambassador for the city image across the international press.
Financial and security issues were also discussed, revamp and adjustments of the city, schedule for press centre and the venue, event locations and of course transportation adjustments. There will be several meetings to keep the city council updated of the implementations.
