UKRAINE – Today the third city bidding to host the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest was announced: Lviv joins the cities of Kyiv and Dnipro. Deputy Mayor for the Development Andriy Moskalenko is the head of the project and stated that “It is a bit early to speak about possible venue, as we’re only now requesting confidential documents with the conditions for the Arena of the contest. It can be “Arena Lviv” stadium, it can be unfinished Eurobasket arena, or something different”.
Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy is sure that the city can host the contest: “We’re ready, because we have a lot of experience. Stadium “Arena Lviv” is ready to host any competitions, festivals. We have a wonderful international airport, many hotels, and most importantly – we have an atmosphere. If we want to show the world the European Ukraine with a beautiful open face – Lviv is ready to do it […] In 2013 we have started construction of a big arena for EuroBasket, and while it was frozen, we’re considering the possibility to resume the construction. It can ready within 8 months”.
The bid should be ready up to July 8th while the final decision for the host city is expected on August 1st.
