STOCKHOLM SPECIALISTS LAND IN KYIV
Today Stockholm City specialists arrived in Kyiv, to share their expertise on hosting and organising the Eurovision Song Contest, in order to develop the proper environment for Euroclub, the venue, Eurovillage, transportation and accommodation. EBU representatives are also expected today in the Ukrainian capital. Video footage is available in this post.
The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest will cost to the Ukrainians 15 million Euros (aside the 15 million Euros guarantee which is deposited into an EBU account and will be returned to Ukraine after the contest is over). Ukrainian government approved the budget today, emphasising that the Ukrainian organisers will make a high level show next May. Extra money will be allocated by the city of Kyiv and Kyiv region administration, sponsors and investors for the reconstruction of the city necessary for the contest activities. Of course, from those 15 million Euros, participating country fees an ticket sales will compensate Ukrainian budget, a revenue estimated up to 5 million Euros.
KYIV IS CHANGING
Those of us visiting Kyiv both in 2005 for senior Eurovision and 2013 for Junior Eurovision have noticed that there is already a big revamp of the city. But this not enough for Ukrainians. They plan a renovation of the Mykilska slobidka waterfront accessible to the arena as promised by the Mayor himself, emphasising to the unfinished buildings in the area. There will be also collaboration with Ministry of Tourism for extra reconstruction of the city, which actually is not a spending just for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest but a true investment for the city’s developing tourism industry. The information about not – yet – signed contracts with the venue and the city are denied and all sides promise a spectacular stay during the two weeks of the Eurovision event.
Somehow I know how the Ukrainian mind works: They are always stimulated when they shot an international event. I can absolutely be assured that when Ukrainians say it will be perfect, it will be even if they have to build something the very last minute. Ukrainians are a very proud nation. Not only due to their competition with Russia but they dislike to hear negative comments. Therefore they will make sure that everything is perfect no matter the cost of money or the cost of working hours in order to satisfy the international guests. But they don’t do it out of obligation, they do it out of pride! This deserves applause already!
