PORTUGAL – RTP’s program director Daniel Deusdado seems to have confirmed to regional fan site ESC Portugal that there are 43 countries in the provisional list for participating in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.
Although there is still time for countries to withdraw without penalty, Russia is officially confirmed to be among the 43 countries.
Mr Deusdado also discussed the issue of the “cheapest Eurovision edition ever” explaining that it will be cost efficient event without removing any of the big standards the contest has (maybe an imply for those who speculated lack of LED screens on stage?)
He also explained that EBU members will contribute with a total of 5 million Euros in it and government, the city of Lisbon and Tourism Organisation will also contribute to the budget alongside the sponsors. Though final budget estimation is expected by the end of the year.
Nuno Galopim, RTP consultant for the 2018 edition of Festival da Canção said that the national selection will be expanded in terms of song variety and number of participants.
