INTERNATIONAL – The sad development of cancelling the Eurovision Song Contest forced every national broadcaster to find alternative solutions to cover the lost hours which were set for the semi-finals and the final of Eurovision 2020. In most cases, national broadcasters tried to appease the general sentiment for the loss of the Eurovision 2020 airtime by broadcasting and producing various shows related to Eurovision itself.
Alongside the dozen fan sites polls who aimed to be the expert of the experts predicting the alleged Eurovision 2020 winner, many national broadcasters invited their viewers to interact with them by voting for the 41 Eurovision 2020 entries, which anyway are now ineligible for Eurovision 2021 according to EBU.
We all understand that the broadcasters are aiming to compensate the viewers and their sentiment for the loss of Eurovision, to keep the international Eurovision spirit alive but honestly, no one can take the results seriously as they are based on voting based on video clips, master produced songs and not based into live performances.
It is annual proven that almost all Eurovision entries sound nothing at all when performed live on stage with their studio or video clip version. Therefore those preview and voting shows can be seen as something fun, interactive and gamely only! Some countries also produced special shows to find out their country’s best Eurovision entry or best Eurovision moment in general.
In the following list, you can see all available and broadcast shows and their results (it includes only the final results). Now, if you think that they are indicative for who would really have won the contest you must be a fool but nevertheless, it is a nice thing to read and discuss. We are sure no one will agree with the results anyway!
Norway, Spain and Slovenia are among the countries who also conducted special votings for best Eurovision moments and national entries in Eurovision history. In the meantime EBU did their best to provide a compensation show with the two-hour special show EUROVISION: EUROPE SHINE A LIGHT which anyway was indifferent due to lack of competition in the show. But it’s the 65th Eurovision anniversary and any celebration is welcomed.
The shows holding a preview presentation and voting and ultimately voted for the 2020 Eurovision winner (and ultimately their top ten) are
