EDITORIAL – It is a really absurd year. Everyone has a say in the quality, message, appearance, choice of Eurovision entries. Lots of crisis caused by people who normally should be isolated from our communities. Everyone sees ghosts here and there. Eurovision is the battlefield of activism, human rights, ideology for some but for us, it’s the filed of psychiatric study!
All that with an already failed Rotterdam edition underway…
Where to start?
Cyprus: The church reacts to the title of the Cypriot entry. They think that Elena is using the devil. But no Cypriot reacts on the full copy of Dua Lipa’s and Lady Gaga’s songs, nor the Zara Larsson’s video clip.
Greece: In this case, we have no scandal, crisis or anything related. Yes, this is among the stories for this editorial, because it’s one of the fewest times in Greek Eurovision history where we have no reactions to the chosen song.
Spain: Originally Blas made it clear he wants to work with a song by Duncan Laurence. Promo stunt for the Spanish entry? Well, it cleary didn’t work for them. Spanish fans of course never react beforehand as they will slam the broadcaster after the Grand Final where Spain will be ranked 20th as usual.
Malta: Destiny has been accused of sexism, due to her video clip. Seriously, the Maltese must appreciate they are top favourites for the first time in years and should focus on working for 2022 Eurovision hosting instead of discussing hilarious things.
North Macedonia: MRT is discussing whether to change the song after protests for pro-Bulgarian singer Vasil. And that happened because a painting in a museum presented in the video in a vertical position resembled the Bulgarian flag! We can’t stop laughing with that one. In a recent development, Bulgaria’s VP stated that if Skopje disqualifies Vasil, then he will be the 2022 Bulgarian representative.
Georgia: There were some who didn’t like Tornike’s song. His reply was that he doesn’t case about shit Eurovision and he will f..ck our mothers. In a second post, he moved the f…cking to our ears!
Albania: Peristeri won the FIK 2020 although there was another favourite. Weirdly the reactions silenced immediately and no further scandal reported. As if anyone cares…
Croatia: HRT didn’t choose Damir again and Croatians along with lots of Eurofans wondered why? HRT explained they had to make another DORA due to a specific contract. But Damir was also excluded from that selection…
France: Barbara Pravi for Junior, Barbara Pravi for senior Eurovision. It’s one womans’ job it seems for the French national broadcaster. It was the most predictable national final ever.
Seven countries work with Dietmann: The man who brought Conchita on stage in 2014 works now for seven countries, prepping their stage presentation. If Dietmann played monopoly would definitely be a winner.
Norway: KEiiNO really thought they would win MGP. But just like last year an outsider won. Problems in the app voting didn’t change the results, NRK claims… But somehow we are not convinced. You?
Iceland and Lithuania: There are a lot of people claiming that both countries “suicided” with a choice of songs similar to their 2020 bids. The comparison brought a downfall in the betting odds.
Lithuania: Government bans Kirkorov from entering the country for five years because of the Russian arrest of a Lithuanian journalist. We want to see how Lithuania will vote for Russian and Moldovan entry this year.
Russia: A weird and out of the blue national final, secrecy all over and while Russia is against gay and lesbians, they sent to Rotterdam and Tajiki Lesbian singer. By the way, the “Russian woman” song won a national final hold on INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY… seriously, they need to plan better how they fix their national finals in Russia.
Belarus: It took some days for Eurofans and EBU that President Lukashenko selected a fascist with a neglecting lyrics song to represent the country this year. EBU calls for actions and the replacement of lyrics or song. They gave them a deadline for April 1st. But can EBU survive without the Belarusian fee, especially in such hard times?
Poland: No one notified Alicija she won’t represent her country again in Eurovision 2021. Of course, it’s their right to do so. But let’s remember that TVP stated (accidentally) that she would be the Polish entrant in 2021 during JESC week last November.
Denmark: Ben & Tan were not invited to DMGP 2021 and they wondered why. They started submitting songs here and there (including Denmark) ending up finding negative responses. I am not sure if they understand why this happened. Let us tell them why: Because both 2020 entry and 2021 bid were really bad… digest that guys and move on!
