THE NETHERLANDS – Fans will be able to explore Rotterdam, meet its talented citizens, party surrounded by the Cube Houses or in the iconic Market Hall, and enjoy front-row seats for a live DJ Afrojack set. There will also be a special edition of the Dutch Junior Songfestival show for children, featuring winners of previous editions.
The Online Eurovision Village is available 24/7 and free of charge at: www.eurovisionvillage.com
Martin Österdahl, Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor, will be logging on:
‘We’re really excited that the City of Rotterdam is breaking new ground this year with the creation of a virtual Eurovision Village. Opening up this online space means Eurovision fans from across the world can all be in Rotterdam to share the fun and excitement as we bring the Eurovision Song Contest back. The village is a tribute to the creativity of the Host City and their motto ‘Make It Happen’. We might not be able to gather in person the way we are used to this year but the innovation shown by the City of Rotterdam means that we can unite even more people with music and entertainment in the true spirit of the Eurovision Song Contest.’
Renske Satijn, director of Rotterdam Festivals, adds:
‘Now that the world can’t come to Rotterdam, we will bring Rotterdam to the world! This idea inspired us to build this unique platform. I am incredibly proud of the fact that we have built the world’s first ever Online Eurovision Village.
This year, a larger and more wide-ranging audience will be able to celebrate together. We aim to let online visitors enjoy the true Eurovision Song Contest vibes by offering them a great mix of live shows, guided tours and content that you simply don’t want to miss. Most of the content can be enjoyed as often as you like, but a few big events are live and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You do really want to be part of this, trust me! I am very pleased to invite everyone to visit the first ever Online Eurovision Village.’
The virtual village has been designed, built and filled with incredible digital content by Rotterdam Festivals, entertainment agency Tribe Company and DEPT digital agency. On the 3D map of Rotterdam, you will recognise the city’s most iconic sights, such as the Euromast Tower and the brand new and sparkly Depot of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
The Eurovision Village
The Eurovision Village is the official fan zone for this event, where a wide range of musicians and artists – including 2021 participants – will perform, and where fans meet up. Everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy the music and good vibes because admission is free of charge. It is an official part of the Eurovision Song Contest, organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in close cooperation with Dutch broadcasting corporations NPO, NOS and AVROTROS as well as Host City Rotterdam.
As Host City Partner, Rotterdam Festivals is also responsible for the City Programme. With a creative and mainly online program, the city of Rotterdam will showcase its many talents. More than 50 organisations and cultural institutions are offering a wide range of events from open studios and singing competitions to music in playgrounds and mosques. All the activities of the City Programme can be found on the Rotterdam Festivals website.
