ITALY – Those of us who have lived the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest in Rome, Italy, still remember the fiasco of the production and that the event is known in the Eurofandom as the ultimate failed ESC ever.
On the first day of the Eurovision Song Contest, 2021 week of preparations woke up that sentiment. Not only ours but a lot of that of Eurofans who believe the production has failed (today) in almost everything.
WHY DO WE BELIEVE IT FAILED?
- In the morning, LA STAMPA reports that there is a malfunction on the stage and more specifically on the arches of the sun shape and RAI will limit its use.
- The first day of rehearsals concluded with the sun arches not moving at all for any of the participating acts. It is interesting that the stage has been built for weeks now and they discovered this on Thursday!!!
- All delegations have been disappointed but it was even more clear that they are annoyed. One delegation (Lithuania) openly said that Monika will not be able to present what was originally decided with the organizers.
- It seems though that the problem was known to everyone since Thursday. The Greek delegation was informed after the conclusion of the stand-in rehearsals that a fragment of Amanda’s rehearsal is not possible in the way ERT wished and has to change.
- Without even having the courage to make an announcement, organisers and the EBU proudly bragged all day through the official website about how wonderful is to have water implemented on stage and how amazing is to have 1700 bushes in the Green Room area! OK! whatever!
- The failure continues as the anticipate exclusive partnership with TikTok has proven to be a total flop. The videos were delayed as never before and the promised 90″ seconds were narrowed to even 25″ for the Latvian delegation. The rehearsals are over and by the way, at the moment we write this post, the last TIKTOK video by EBU is that of… Ukraine still!
- Then we got the media handbook of 2022 and we got excited seeing that the first-ever Italian participant, Giglila Cinquetti will perform in the Grand Final and that Mรฅneskin were also confirmed…
- Well not as confirmed as you might like. Mรฅneskin are going to perform in the Grand Final through a live feed from Los Angeles because they have to be there to record their new album. Although the dates for Eurovision 2022 are known for months, the Roman band couldn’t arrange its commitments?
- Are Mรฅneskin snubbing Eurovision? Wouldn’t be surprised. Since their victory, they barely sing ZITTI E BUONI anywhere in their appearances as they focus on BEGGIN cover which was anyway released by the band years ago. No matter the reason, this is an epic fail when it comes to the public relations of RAI.
- This also means that there will be no physical giving of the trophy from the previous to the new winner of Eurovision. Yes, Duncan Laurence also didn’t hand over the trophy but he was in a COVID-19 situation and couldn’t do that. Therefore it will be the first time in recent years this is not happening. Yet, EBU and RAI haven’t bothered to make an announcement about that and who will give the trophy to the winner this year.
- But on the other hand, EBU and RAI through the media handbook were excited to write a full page for the postcards concept and the use of Leo, the drone which turns out to be the mascot of the event.
- And we will never understand the point of having a meet and greet session with the artists when EBU decided to block the physical and online press from them without even bothering to upload the videos on any platform at least for a view on demand.
a complete fail
