TURIN, ITALY – The EBU and Host County, RAI press conference took place. Here are the highlights of the press conference.
- RAI is happy to host the event after a year of hard work
- About last night, RAI reported enthusiastic TV ratings, especially for younger audiences
- RAI is happy with the technical work for the broadcast of the first semifinal
- RAI also emphasises the message of the interval act songs by Laura Pausini and MIKA and about the opening of the grand final with ROCKIN’1000 and the performance of GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
- *There was no mention to MANESKIN
- Regarding the kinetic sun, RAI said the machine is working but because there are 40″ between song performances and therefore they don’t wanna risk any problems, therefore it was decided to remain neutrally stable for all acts
- EBU expresses happiness and satisfaction for the first semifinal
- The question about a cyber attack on the EBU site was confirmed and RAI says that everything is now OK and no damage was reported
- EBU said (regarding a win of Ukraine) that when they have a winner, they have a discussion with the national broadcaster. This process will apply again this time no matter who’s the winner.
- RAI re-affirmed what the CITY OF TURIN said earlier today: there is n evidence of a sexual harassment incident and there is an investigation ongoing.
- EBU says that accreditation limitation was decided back in the early stages of the 2022 event which was still under unknown factors for the pandemic.
- Regarding the big props by some delegations, causing extra breaks and slowing the flow of the show, EBU addressed the glorious ambitions of some delegations, and they will be stricter about the rule.
- Regarding the return of Belarus and Belarus, EBU didn’t have any answer
- Regarding politics in Eurovision, EBU says that the rules and the values are non-political no matter what many believe. Especially for Ukraine, no matter the implications, the delegations have already rehearsed in a proper way to avoid any mishaps in the live show
- RAI confirmed the COVID case in Gianluca (IL VOLO) and they try to make a digital recording so the act proceeds tomorrow evening
- Regarding the collaboration with TikTok, a platform with close relations to human-rights violator country, China, EBU says that the massive interest in social media and Eurovision needs those platforms. EBU will evaluate the partnership from that perspective but for now, the agreement is in place and is working very well.
- Regarding the second victory of Italy, RAI says “let’s wait until Saturday, first”
- Regarding the use of the RUSSIAN flag by anyone in the arena, EBU says that for now, they allow only participating countries, but they will check on this again
- Martin Osterndahl says that the “good to go..” phrase came naturally out of him and was not scripted
- About Slovakia, EBU says that they are in contact and if there are any special concerns then they will do so (and not only for Slovakia)
- About the fans being disrespectful on the social, EBU says it’s a sad aspect as the contest is full of positive energy, calling it a shame
- RAI hopes that RAI1 will maintain the broadcast of the semifinals
