EUROVISION 2022 – Three weeks after the 66th Eurovision Grand Final here is a recap of what we missed from the statistics of the biggest music of the world
- Zdob ศi Zdub represented Moldova at Eurovision 2005, finishing 6th. They also represented Moldova at Eurovision 2011, finishing 12th, and at Eurovision 2022, finishing 7th. Zdob ศi Zdub is the only artist to have qualified from a semifinal three times. Moreover, Zdob ศi Zdub and Fraศii Advahov showed the highest result in the country in the televoting in history with the second place
- For the first time in the history of the contest, all top-3 songs start with the same letter. This year, the songs “Stefania”, “SPACE MAN” and “SloMo” entered the top-3
- Konstrakta participated in Eurovision 2022 at the age of 43. She became the oldest solo artist to hit the top-5 this century. Thus, she broke the stereotype that only young performers are successful at the contest. Konstrakta finished fifth in the final, the country’s best result since 2012. In addition, fifth place is Serbia’s third-best result after winning in 2007 and third in 2012. Konstrakta also broke Serbia’s record for the most absolute points received in a final, which previously was 268 and was set in 2007
- Ukraine received points from absolutely all participating countries, thus breaking the absolute Eurovision record for the televoting. The country also received 91.5% of all possible votes in the televote. In general, Ukraine scored 65.7% of all points. The victory of the Kalush Orchestra with the song “Stefania” is the third victory of Ukraine, after the victories in 2004 of Ruslana with the song “Wild Dances” and 2016 of Jamala with the song “1944”. Moreover, “Stefania” is the first victory in the history of a completely Ukrainian-language song.
- Of Germany’s last seven entries, the country has only once ranked higher than 25th. In 2018, Michael Schulte with the song “You Let Me Walk Alone” became an exception, taking 4th place. And in 2015, 2016 and 2022, Germany finished last in the final.
- France has shown its worst result in Eurovision since 2015. Alvan & Ahez finished this year in 24th place in the final, which was the country’s worst performance since the period 2012-2015 when France couldn’t get beyond 20th place
- Armenia showed its best result in the contest since 2018. After two failures to qualify for the final, the cancellation of Eurovision 2020 and a non-participation in 2021, Rosa Linn could make it to the final and take 20th place. Although this marked Armenia’s worst result in a Eurovision final since the country’s debut in 2006
- After its first non-qualification in 2018, Romania also failed to qualify for the final in 2019 and 2021. This year WRS went to the final, placing 9th in the semifinal with 118 points
- Nadir Rustamli could reach the final only thanks to the jury, which put the artist in sixth place in the semifinal with 96 points. Televoting gave him no points in the semi-final. In the final, Azerbaijan received only 3 points from Georgian TV viewers and 103 points from the jury. As a result, Azerbaijan took 16th place in the contest this year
- Songs from Kalush Orchestra, Sam Ryder and Chanel have all made an appearance in this week’s Billboard Global 200. The winning song “Stefania” debuts on the list at No.85. Further down the list, Sam Ryderโs “SPACE MAN” has hit No.93. Down at No.151, there is Chanelโs “SloMo”. Moreover, Sam Ryder also achieved UK chart success. Last week “SPACE MAN” hit No.2 on the Official UK Singles Chart
- Poland finished in position 12 with 151 points โ the country’s best placing since Michaล Szpak’s 8th place, achieved in 2016. Poland also managed to reach its best result in the semifinals in the history of the country in the contest, having achieved 6th place with 198 points. Poland had also previously scored 6th in the semifinal in 2016, but having received fewer points
- Amanda Tenfjord placed eighth in the final of Eurovision 2022. It’s Greece’s best result since 2013, when Koza Mostra feat. Agathon Iakovidis placed sixth in the final. Moreover, Amanda Tenfjord brought the country the second top-10 in a row. In 2021, Stefania placed tenth in the final
- Mahmood and Blanco brought Italy the best result as a host nation since 2016. In 2016 Frans, who represented Sweden, finished fifth
- Cornelia Jakobs finished fourth, the country’s best result since 2015. Sweden ranked 5th in 2016, 2017 and 2019, as well as 7th in 2018 and 14th in 2021. So far, the country’s best result in history remains six victories, the last of which was in 2015. Moreover, this year Sweden set a record as the only country that managed to take first place in the semifinals 4 times.
- Spain with Chanel achieved its best result since 1995. Moreover, Spain received at least one point from every country except for Italy. For the first time in its participation history, Spain received the most sets of twelve points from the national juries, tied with the United Kingdom with eight sets of maximum points
- United Kingdom has broken several of its records this year. The country moved out of the top-20 for the first time since 2018, and also ranked in the top-15 for the first time since 2017. Moreover, the UK is in the top-10 and top-5 for the first time since 2009; for the first time since 2002 entered the top-3 and for the first time since 1998 took 2nd place
