CYPRUS – Following the reactions in the past three Eurovision Song Contest editions, Cyprus national broadcaster is turning to a national selection for Eurovision 2023 (so be patient one more year).
It is no secret that Cypriot are upset that after Eleni Foureira, only Greek artists participate in the contest and actually copying the Foureira style, with no gains for the country in the Eurovision scoreboard.
Not to forget that the 2021 song title caused massive reactions and protests in the island of Aphrodite last year, as Elena Tsagrinou performed “El Diablo” in Rotterdam causing a dispute with the Orthodox Church of Cyprus and failing to bring a good score to the country as it was only ranked 16th in the Grand Final.
While CyBC is going to make a small surprise with its internal selection this year (more information will be revealed soon, as we already reported to you that the choice has been already made), a piece of new information has risen to the press.
For Eurovision 2023, CyBC and PANIK RECORDS will organize a talent show the winner of which will represent Cyprus in the contest.
For Eurovision 2022, oikotimes can exclusively reveal to you that the Alex P. project seems to have been voted out from CyBC, while a song by Michalis Hatzigiannis for a Cypriot (?) singer, seems to be in the running for the final CyBC decision.
