UNITED KINGDOM – Glasgow has joined the competition to host the Eurovision Song Contest owing to the situation in Ukraine.
After hosting COP26, the city pronounced itself “the safest of secure hands.”
Glasgow has been “working hard” on a candidacy since it revealed last month that the UK may host.
Glasgow satisfied all the “technical criteria” for the event, which could be worth more than ยฃ20 million for its economy. However, Edinburgh and Aberdeen are also considering bids.

Glasgow Council spokeswoman:
Since the UK might host on behalf of Ukraine, we’ve worked hard on our proposal. We satisfy all the technological standards, and Glaswegians want to welcome the world. We know Glasgow can organise the tournament since it just hosted COP.
Council leader Susan Aitken said it was a “no-brainer” for Glasgow to host Eurovision, adding, “Glasgow stands ready to welcome all Eurovision lovers to their spiritual home.” ABBA mentions us. “It’s fated.”
Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman:
“Aberdeen has a track record of producing significant international events. Now that the EBU has announced the BBC will host Eurovision 2023, we will look at the shortlisting process. The council has asked officials to continue communication with key parties and examine the ramifications of hosting this worldwide event and its vast audience. Eurovision is a global event.” We have the city, people, and facilities to handle international events like this, which would benefit Aberdeen’s and Scotland’s economy and increase its prestige.
Edinburgh’s Usher Hall hosted Eurovision 50 years ago, said City Council Leader Cammy Day.
As Kyiv’s sister city and new home to many Ukrainians, Edinburgh would be a worthy host. The event has expanded since 1972, but we’ll consider all alternatives and decide whether to bid soon.โ
Scottish Government spokesman:
“While it’s regrettable that Ukraine can’t host Eurovision next year, we’re happy that the UK will. Local governments around the nation must bid, which is a fantastic honour for any city and country. We’re curious about next year’s tournament.”
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack:
The UK hosting Eurovision 2023 will honour Ukraine’s people, culture, and innovation.
Scotland has a rich musical heritage, terrific venues, and a warm vibe.
