ANDORRA – Last year, the last Androrran representative in Eurovision, Susanne Georgi launched a campaign to bring her country back in the contest. There were also government officials giving thumbs up to such potential and sponsors were found.
Immediately after the 2021 Eurovision edition concluded, Susanne Georgi said that she is ready to come back to Eurovision but a statement from RTVA said that at this time the country is not applying to the EBU for Eurovision 2022.
Fan de Carpeta hosted a YouTube session Skyping former participants of Andorra in Eurovision have all supported the idea of Andorra’s return to Eurovision. After all, San Marino is a great example that they can do better than the previous years since Senhit and Serhat brought the Italian microstate in the final already.
In the interview, which is not in English we have the following highlights
- Susanne Georgi (2009) has been in contact with other smaller nations that compete in Eurovision, including San Marino. She has the perfect concept to re-enter the contest, she claims.
- Gisela (2008) said that a return to Eurovision would allow Andorra to promote their culture on a worldwide stage.
- Marta Roure, Marian van de Wal, Jenny, and Anonymousโ Niki Francesca all added that they would like to see Andorra return to the contest soon. The artists said that returning to the contest is important for Andorra as a country.
What all of the above-mentioned need to know, is that promoting their country, culture and history are great things and values. But ultimately their song needs to be appealing to the ears of an audience of 2022 in order not this to turn into a just poor tourist promo or another Eurovision meme.
