SWEDEN – Vocal Line from Denmark won Eurovision Choir 2019! The event was held at the Partille Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden, along with the Opening Ceremony of the European Choir Games, produced in partnership with Interkultur and Göteborg & Co.

Ten of Europe’s best amateur choirs competed to impress a panel of international choral music stars by performing an unaccompanied selection of music in a variety of styles. They each performed a set that lasted no more than four minutes.

The show, which was attended by some 3,500 people, was presented by the BBC’s Petroc Trelawny and SVT’s Ella Petersson. A total of 10 choirs participated in Eurovision Choir 2019. The participants (in alphabetical order):

Almakalia (Belgium)
Vocal Line (Denmark)
BonnVoice (Germany)
Babite Municipality Mixed Choir MASKA (Latvia)
Volve Vokal (Norway)
Alba (Scotland)
Jazzva (Slovenia)
Zero8 (Sweden)
Cake O’Phonie (Switzerland)
Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion (Wales)

After each performance, jurors Katarina Henryson, a founding member of pioneering a cappella ensemble The Real Group, John Rutter, a British composer and conductor and US producer and arranger Deke Sharon gave their comments.

The jury then selected three choirs to perform again — Latvia, Denmark and Slovenia — this time each performing for three minutes.

From these three choirs, Vocal Line from Denmark was ultimately crowned the winner of Eurovision Choir 2019. They get to take home a specially designed trophy and they will go to the World Choir Games in Belgium in 2020.

Latvia came second, Slovenia finished third.

EBU Head of Live Events Jon Ola Sand congratulated the winning choir and praised the production:
“Vocal Line from Denmark truly deserve to be named Eurovision Choir 2019. Tonight, we saw 10 choirs sharing a fantastic spirit of togetherness. The joy these singers feel making music with each other carried across to the audiences here in Gothenburg and those watching at home. This year’s Eurovision Choir provided a fantastic journey across Europe’s cultures and traditions and we’re thrilled to have provided another opportunity for public service media to use music to unite audiences.”

Sand also commented on the production of the show: “The EBU congratulates our incredible broadcasting team who created a wonderful production and thanks our partners Interkultur and the City of Gothenburg who helped make Eurovision Choir possible.”

SERBIA 🇷🇸 We needed a bad song and we got it. Hurricane presented a bad mix of Balkan sound with disco tune in LOCO LOCO. Impossible to understand it, feel it and dance with it. Maybe the song presentation will change our minds. The Balkan banger was composed by Nemanja Antonić (also behind Hurricane’s Hasta la Vista) while Darko Dimitrov worked with him on the arrangement. Band member Sanja Vučić wrote the lyrics. 4 0
