AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – The team of oikotimes.com was on the spot last Saturday in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) for the 2015 edition of Eurovision in Concert. 24 countries plus the Bobbysocks performed on stage and itโs time for our editorial review of the performances. I am not going to present them one by one as in less than a month we will reviewing them on the run to become Eurovisionโs next top song but we asked 10 of our friends to review their favourite top and bottom three songs of the evening.
Each person had to exclude its home country from the review!
FOTIS (GREECE)
Let me start with my own top and bottom three: I think that based on the fact that it was a club party mostly and not a Eurovision stage presentation of the song, in my opinion the song which I sang along and had great time with my friends were Israel, the UK and Azerbaijan. Israel because it was the most energetic song (12 points from me), the UK because I just love Alex’s chill performance (10 points) and Azerbaijan (8 points) which for me is the dark horse of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. On the other hand I felt asleep with Hungary, Montenegro and FYR Macedonia. I hope they prove me wrong in Vienna.
BOB (AUSTRIA)
While I have to say that my home country’s representative is a total hunky I enjoyed most of the performances. It’s very hard to select top and bottom three but if I was suppose to vote for them in Melkweg based on which act impressed me most I would say Azerbaijan (12 points for me), Sweden (10 points) and Latvia (8 points). Azerbaijan has a very famous and good vocalist this year for Vienna and the song is amazingly good (it’s Swedish right?). Sweden although a lot more empty without the graphics is quite good and Mรฅns defends the title of the sexiest and good vocalist man in one package. Latvia on the other hand has a unique sound which I would love to hear in my iPod over and over again without knowing why exactly. My bottom three of the evening should be Norway (totally disappointed by their empty and no structured presentation), Hungary (good message but boooooring song) and Montenegro (another old man singing Joksimovic’s song, so what?)
CARLY (UNITED KINGDOM)
I was more in a club mood rather than in a competition spirit. I think that the best performances for me were the ones of Sweden (12 points) with Mรฅns been sexy on stage no matter what will happen in Vienna. I cannot see Sweden winning this year but for sure I love him! I would give my 10 points to Moldova, Eduard is so sexy and he is a great dancer, not to forget he is actually representing Ukraine as well. Last in my top three is Serbia (08 points). Not that it’s a great song but Bojana deserves the same attention as any other hunky or non hunky artist. Well done girl! My bottom three are Hungary, Poland and FYR Macedonia. I have to thank them though as I went to the bar during their performances (and I needed a break).
ANTONIS (CYPRUS)
It was my second time in the concert and I think it was once again an amazing party for Europe and Eurovision itself. I was impressed by The Netherlands (both Trijntje and Edsilia) to whom I would give 12 points as it’s a really happy song, by Slovenia (10 points) which is a very good dance song and I hope they are really cautious on their stage presentation and I was impressed by Lithuania (08 points) which is undoubtedly the song with the best positive message this year. I wasn’t impressed with Serbia, Montenegro and Poland, I thought they were just dull tunes and this is mainly because when you a re going into a club you want to dance and not sleep (it’s not their fault though).
DIANA (SPAIN)
I was really missing Spain and Italy from Eurovision in Concert but it was great to see the 24 countries before Vienna as it’s impossible for me to go there. I think the best acts for me were: Sweden (12 points) with that sexy singer of theirs, Australia (10 points) with another sexy singer and Lithuania (08 points) with the third sexy man (in a duet). Yes sexiness matters to me because it makes me pay attention to them plus they were all great singers. I wasn’t please with Greece, Hungary and France to be honest. I expected more from these countries (Greece with an uptempo ethnic song, Hungary definitely worst than last year and France…. sleepy sleepy sleepy).
OLIVIER (FRANCE)
Mt first “Eurovision In Concert” was a great one. Though the 24 songs were performed with no specific staging, and despite the fact two of my favourite entries were not in Amsterdam, the overall impression was nice. My top 3 would be Australia (a real professional performance and a true show man, 12 points), Sweden (no surprise!, 10 points) and Israel (it was party time at last in the venue, 08 points). The big surprise of the night was Serbia. I don’t like anything about that entry but she was the most successful artist of the night by far! Most of the songs were ballads and truly de serve a great staging to be fully appreciated. I think Norway, France or FYR Macedonia can be good performances in Vienna. Of course, I have my “flop 3” as well. Hungary was soporific, so was Poland, but the weakest song and performance in my opinion was Cyprus. Even the audience wouldn’t list en to him while he was performing. Nice song though but tremendous lack of Charisma…
KARL (GERMANY)
It was my 3rd consecutive Eurovision in Concert and I have to admit the show was quick and amazing. Lots of fan with friends and amazing time watching my favourite Eurovision stars performing. I would give 12 points to the organisers but I will proceed with Azerbaijan: Elnur is coming back and proves that he is not just an angel but he can sing better than 2008 and present a better tune this time. My 10 points go to Australia, Guy is going to make the Vienna venue rocking on 23rd of May and we will all gonna love him. Then my 8 points go to Lithuania, not only because they spread a tolerance message through a very effective video clip, but the song is the best Lithuania ever sent to Eurovision in my opinion. I have to admit I disliked Greece, Hungary and The Netherlands as I consider them just boring songs. Nevertheless this is what I got out of this event, I am absolutely sure things will change for me and my votes during the live shows in Vienna.
WESLEY (BELGIUM)
My personal top 3 from that night was Azerbaijan (what an amazing voice), Serbia ( it all Works that night) and Norway (For the same reason as you with the UK). The three who weren’t that great was Lithuania (goes to the final but the vocals are poor), Former Yugoslav Republic ofMacedonia (don’t like the English version) and Hungary (song with a message but what was that soooo boring).
ELLIE (DENMARK)
Besides I had a great time in Amsterdam my favourite performances on that night were: Australia as I think Guy is an amazing artist and I love him so much (12 points), Azerbaijan (10 points) with Elnur giving a stunning vocal performance (not very interested in the song) and somehow Belarus (08 points) happily surprised me. Not good songs for me anyway 9even before Amsterdam gig) were Hungary, Montenegro and Greece.
SILJE (NORWAY)
The Eurovision in Concert is an amazing party and always gathering with friends in Amsterdam prior to Eurovision is an amazing feeling, YOU HAVE TO BE THERE trust me. I enjoyed all performances and I am sure this is how my preferences will be (more or less) in Vienna: I think Australia is the awesome winner of Eurovision 2015 for me (12 points) and Guy is the showman we all need in Eurovision 2015. I have to admit that although there are many confers about Mรฅns, I will vote also for Sweden this year (10 points) even though his performance without the graphics on a club stage was not very interesting but the singer is amazing (especially when smiles). My third favourite that evening was Slovenia (08 points) and Maraaya seems to be the radio hit of the year for me. Less impressed by Serbia, Cyprus and Montenegro.
