THE NETHERLANDS – I always believed that before the Eurovision parties we over estimate al entries as we mostly listen to them in a studio version. Last night’s Eurovision in Concert 12th edition was a great chance to understand what most of the participants can or cannot do on stage (based on vocal performances).
Surely, we all understand that all Eurovision pre parties cannot have the best sound equipment for such a live event due to cost. We also understand that many artists save their voices and some also were sick. But we have our ten songs.
We must explain that this is our to ten based on last performances among the 28 participants and the review is only about the event. This doesn’t mean anything but surely creates sentiments for future anticipations.
12 points to Spain: yes, don’t laugh but this song made me dance and was the definition of what a Eurovision party should be. We know Miki is not an excellent vocal sing
10 points to Israel: the performance was not only adequate but Kobi has proven to be an amazing performer and having excellent vocals. His simplicity on the stage presentation would definitely make him noticed during Eurovision 2019 final.
08 points to The Netherlands: it was as if I was in a concert with Sam Smith and awaiting to hear his James Bond movie song. Duncan of cause defended the title of thee favourite by giving a powerful performance. Not sure how I feel about that song.
07 points to Norway: I admit the vocals are not the best but the song and the tune is the ethnic sound you wanna dance in a place like ASAF. I am staying it all the time that this song might not do well in Tel Aviv but will thrive in euroclub!
06 points to Czech Republic: this is the song and performance you wanna listen to a fashion show, morning coffee aside the sea and any other lounge activities. Overall those guys is a nice thing to watch and listen. They don’t bother me. They have to work hard on vocals.
05 points to Serbia: Nevena has an amazing voice but somehow this Balkan ballad is too outdated for me. But she did a great job on stage. I think she will be a great voting item for the juries in Tel Aviv but not sure if public voting wail favour her.
04 points to Australia: although I dislike the song, I have to admit Kate’s vocal performance was very adequate. She is trying hard. Somehow we know she won’t do much in Tel Aviv and not sure she can score well but she gives 100% of herself.
03 points to Switzerland: Great party song, our 2019 Eurovision despacito, our oikopanel winner but there were big vocal miss outs. Luca is a hot guy but he needs to make his vocals even hotter if he wants to bring the contest to Geneva!
02 points to Greece: Katerine seems to be sick. This is what was spread anyway on the web. The performance was disappointing but it’s obvious she has time and potentials to change everything in her vocal performance and get better prepared.
01 point to Ireland: somehow this is a song that ultimately you notice and you like listening to it. Mediocre vocals can be the main issue but let’s not forget it’s just a party performance. Feeling happy having this song in my top ten.
The songs that were totally indifferent (maybe the party spirit didn’t help us understand them) were the following. Germany: simple and without any excitement. That dramatic tune with those family lyrics don’t seem to match. Poland is doing a decent and good effort with amazing vocals but I cannot see how this ethnic tune can appeal nowadays.
Armenia: a performance which disappointed me duet to for vocals. Albania: I was expecting much stronger vocal performance that the one last night. Moldova: if you can forgive the awful English pronunciation you can somehow like thee vocal performance from Anna. She hasn’t been much in the media spotlight, definitely not the bookies favourite.
Serhat’s entry for San Marino is yet to convince us about the vocal performance which was very bad. But the song is catchy. Not sure if that’s enough.
Belgium: Eliot is giving a good vocal performance but thee song reminds us the 2016 Belgian entry. Although the song is a powerful ballad somehow misses something in the performance which cannot make him a winning horse for me.
Lithuania: I think this performance missed my to ten the very lsat minutes because of Ireland. Jurijus is awesome and he will grow up more inn the following weeks. His performance was OK but needs few more things to convince us completely.
There where of course songs that I never liked and last night didn’t change our mind: Georgia, Romania, Iceland, Finland, Austria, United Kingdom, Hungary, Denmark (with extremely bad vocals), Montenegro (a messy song with dreadful vocals).
