THE NETHERLANDS – The organization of the Eurovision Song Contest has cost less money than expected. Thanks to the modified programme, the organization has saved 3.7 million euros from its budget. A total of 19 million euros has been spent.
Due to the corona pandemic, parts were adjusted or deleted, so that less money was spent than budgeted. However, entrepreneurs in the city have earned less from the festival. This was because fewer foreign visitors came to the city and catering establishments had to adhere to restrictive measures, the municipality says.
Rotterdam entrepreneurs earned a total of 2.8 million euros from the festival. Festival visitors, employees of the organization and delegations from participating countries accounted for more than 17,000 hotel nights, Rijnmond reports.
The council of the municipality is “satisfied and enthusiastic” looking back on the event and is happy to organize a “next world-class event”.
The final of the Eurovision Song Contest attracted almost 5.5 million viewers in the Netherlands. Worldwide, a total of 183 million people watched.
