The team of oikotimes.com has the honor to present you the exclusive interview of the 2014 Austrian representative Conchita Wurst. Immediately when the name announced and confirmed we booked her first web interview for an English fan site and we are proud to share it with you!
Conchita, congratulations. How does it feel you have been selected by ORF for Eurovision 2014? Were there negotiations or was it a sudden proposal? I’m just honored and so thankful… I can’t tell how happy I am! You know, my great agent used to say ‘after the song contest is before the song contest’ well that’s true, and so he negotiated with ORF. I just wanted it so bad, so my agent and the ORF team made my dream come true.
In 2012 you came 2nd in the Austrian national final. Do you think this happened for a reason? Do you feel more ready this time? I always think that there is a reason why things happen. I felt ready back then, but I’m even more ready this time.
Who was the first person you shared the news with and what was the reactions in amongst your family / friends? I didn’t tell anybody. (laughing) They all got the good news from the media. Everyone is happy and they are all very supportive, as always. I love my people. (smiles)
What are your thoughts for the song which you will perform in Copenhagen? What kind of song are you thinking? Are there already any proposals to ORF about the song? Oh my god, I’m so excited about my song! there are some to choose… we will see. The sound is very dramatic but also good to move your body to it!
There are a lot of voices against the recent anti-gay law in Russia, some of them saying that Russia should be not voted at all in Eurovision 2014. What are your thoughts about it? You know this topic is very close to my heart, obviously! I’m fighting for tolerance every day and so I think we all should think outside the box. But refusing the participation of Russia is not the right way. It’s not the fault of the artist that there are such laws.
Are you ready to bring the trophy back to Austria? Do you think it’s about time do it?
I hope that I can do this, but you see I already succeeded. Sending me to Eurovision is such a strong statement. And I’m so thankful getting this opportunity.

INFORMATION ABOUT CONCHITA
Conchita Wurst grew up in the Colombian highlands surrounded by the sound of swinging powder puffs and the rustling of layers made out of delicate tulle. One day her mother, a popular actress, met by fate her father, Alfred of Knack and Wurst, an even more successful theatre director – and fell in love with him.Within that same year she gave birth to her first daughter Conchita, named after the great-grandmother BarbadaConchita (the Bearded). It soon became obvious that the small “Knackwurst” was determined to become someone great and successful.
A Fritanga (spicy sausage) took off to conquer the stages of the world. Conchita´s biggest successes so far include the title to be “Pork Belly Princess 1999” and numerous appearances on TV in the Austrian prime time. Because of her gaining popularity by being part of the “Meidlinger Biergartentheater” she got offered to take a role in the “Salon Kitty Revue”.
But Conchita was longing for more: After some memorable performances in the Burlqsque-Szene she was ready to set off and win the love of the whole Austrian nation. These ambitious qualities catapulted the exceptional talent in the preliminary round to be the Austrian representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku.
The song “That´s What I Am” is undeniably a standout which lets forget the dissatisfying performances of the Austrian contestants of the contest during the past years. Her extravagance lets Conchita become a sensation even weeks before the Song Contest takes place. And even far beyond the borders of Austria she has etched herself indelibly into the consciousness of her Fans in other countries.
“12 points from Hungary, Spain, Portugal, France, UK”. The only logical conclusion: Baku and the world has to see Conchita and needs to realize that her music is a mature masterpiece that confirms its creator is in for the long haul.
the team of oikotimes.com would like to wish Conchita, her team and Austria the very best of luck in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014
