PORTUGAL – The second semi-final of Festival da Cançao 2022 aired tonight on the Portuguese network RTP. The show chose the final five finalists from the national selection for Eurovision 2022.
Tonight’s live show, like last Saturday, was packed with interviews and colourful acts throughout the night. Os Azeitonas’ pink bedazzled sweaters, Pongo’s incredibly effective make-up, and Milhanas’ enormous cloak were all clear fashion standouts.
Syro had an outstanding vocal performance for his power-ballad, while Pongo and Inês Homem de Melo nailed their tough tunes. Jonas provided the standout staging of the name, elevating his song with a powerful dancing sequence.
The remaining interval performances were less memorable than those in the first semifinal, but we’d want to give a shout out to José Cid, who presented a terrific medley during the voting time, featuring a version of his 1980 song “Um grande grande amor.”
Before the qualifiers were announced, Chanel, winner of the Benidorm Fest and Spanish representative in the Eurovision Song Event 2022, sang “SloMo,” the song that will represent Spain in the contest.
She shouted “Happy birthday” in Portuguese after the concert to celebrate RTP on its 65th anniversary.
