PARIS, FRANCE – We exclusively informed you weeks ago that the French selection for Eurovision 2014 was on its way. We now have finals details that were published today on the France 3 website. This year the selection will be more democratic than the previous years, with a number of innovations.
As mentioned before a professional panel will choose on November 26th 3 songs out of all the entries submitted for the selection, just as they did last year. But…
The first novelty is that a viewer of France 3 or a listener of France Bleu (the national public radio network) will be selected to be part of this panel. If you want to join the adventure all you have to do is answer 3 questions related to the Eurovision Song Contest and cross your fingers to be drawn as the new jury member. You’ll be able to do so quite soon on the France 3 website.
The second novelty is that the panel will not choose 1, but 3 songs to go to a “national final”. Indeed, after many years, French viewers will have a say and the opportunity to choose their song. This has not happened since 2007!
The final choice will be made the “Irish way”, during Natasha St-Pier’s show “Les Chansons d’Abord”. The three acts will be performed live and the public (and not a jury) will have to pick France 2014 Eurovision entry. The exact date of the final will be known in due course.
OK we are far from Melodifestivalen but at least France 3 seems to be taking the contest a bit more seriously, involving the audience. Let’s hope we’ll have 3 good entries and a real choice to make… Unfortunately, I must say with his type of open selection we have few chances to see big names taking part. But one never knows…
