Olivier Rocher from France
This country is as regular as a Swiss clock. On uneven years, they send decent entries, and on even years, they fail to produce something good (not to say something listenable). Well, 2016 is no exception to the rule Iโm afraid. โMidnight Goldโ is just like a teenage rock song performed by newcomers in some garage of Tbilisi suburbs. Itโs messy, noisy, and almost amateurish. No regret though, all songs of the Georgian national final were the sameโฆ I just canโt see this one not finishing last of this semi-final.
Andreas Athanasiou from Greece
Oh, dear Georgia… Last year they sent such an amazing singer, a cool song and a mind-blowing performance full of fire… This year… wah wah wah… To be fair i liked the entry in the beginning because it reminded me of late 90’s early 00’s indie rock music from the U.K. but listening more to it has become boring to death and a bit annoying I am sure that it will not qualify to the final.
Fred Medeiros from United Kingdom
With Georgia’s nearly top 10 finish with last year’s entry, Nina Sublatti’s Warrior, their plan of attack must be to try and beat their best finish, 9th place in both 2010 and 2011. So GPB have internally choose their artist specifically looking for an indie/alternative rock artist. Midnight Gold starts off sounding like a super cool rock song in the vein of The Verve, Blur and Pulp but the comparison ends there. The song never really gets out of second gear and ends up being a boring but melodic album track rather than the hit single that they need. Unfortunately with this style of song without any real hook, I believe Georgia will struggle to qualify.
